A Grain Silo Reborn (via NYTimes.com)
Radim Kralik lives with his wife, Barbora Kralikova, and their two children in a modern concrete house they built on top of a 1943 grain silo. The floor-to-ceiling bookshelf is filled with books inherited from his grandfather.
The house is almost entirely open, except for the three small bedrooms on the top floor, to promote “family togetherness,” Ms. Kralikova said. “We can see each other most of the time.”
The views and light are among the home’s best features: “It is never dark in our house,” said Lucie. “Whenever I wake up, there is light coming through the windows.”
The cost of the home’s furnishings — including materials like the oak floors and granite counters — was $200,000. The media center was built by the family’s interior designer, Blanka Zlamalova.

(The Valley of the Moon).
